Licences available

National meteorological services of ECMWF Member and Co-operating States are granted full access to ECMWF products and services via their computing representative.

All other users can gain access to ECMWF forecast products under one of the following licence agreement types.

Commercial use

You can use the forecast products for your own internal purposes. For the standard and max charge licences, you can also use the products to deliver value added services to:

  • end users and broadcasters only, if the original products can be retrieved easily or their use can be identified unambiguously
  • any class of customer, if the original products cannot be retrieved easily and their use cannot be identified unambiguously

Non-commercial use

Non-commercial licences are available to the following for their activities:

  • For the NHMS licences , National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHS) who are a member of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) but are outside the ECMWF Member and Co-operating States. Licensees can use the forecast products to fulfill national governmental obligations related to the protection of life and property, or for Research Projects and Educational Use, provided that any such activity is carried out strictly on a non-commercial basis.
  • For the research and education licence, those involved in research field experiments and verification comparison projects.
  • For the satellite data providers licence, space agencies and other satellite data producers in exchange for satellite observations. Licensees can use the forecast products for satellite data processing only. Contact us.
