The annual meeting of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) held from 11 to 15 January in Phoenix, Arizona, included a symposium in honour of Tony Hollingsworth, former Head of Research of ECMWF, who died on 29 July 2007.

The conference, organised by Jerry Potter and David Burridge, included lectures by Dominique Marbouty, Alan Betts, Soroosh Sorooshian, Eugenia Kalnay, Peter Webster, J. Shukla, Rick Anthes, Joao Teixeira and Adrian Simmons (who gave 2 lectures), all of whom had worked closely with Tony. All emphasised Tony's major contribution to the development of all aspects of Numerical Weather Prediction.

A booklet presenting Tony's achievements and the symposium programme was prepared and can be consulted here. The lectures themselves will be made available early February on the conference website at: http://ams.confex.com/ams/89annual/techprogram/programexpanded_518.htm.
