Every second year, the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) hosts a workshop on the use of high performance computing in meteorology.

The 13th Workshop on the use of high performance computing in meteorology, which took place at ECMWF from Monday to Friday, 3 to 7 November 2008, was attended by more than 100 participants from meteorological services, research institutions and computer vendors, coming from 25 different countries in Europe, Asia and the Americas. The emphasis of this workshop was on running meteorological applications at sustained teraflops performance in a production environment, in particular on the future scalability of numerical weather prediction (NWP) codes and the tools and development environments to facilitate this.
