Another milestone in the RMDCN was reached when the IPVPN MPLS migration was successfully completed on 18 June 2007. The migration to the new network technology provides the meteorological community with a state of the art network infrastructure which will give improved service levels and will allow new services to be introduced.
In the coming months and years, the WMO Information System will require an improved network infrastructure between the Meteorological services. The renewed RMDCN will continue to be one of the key components of the global meteorological network.
Isabella Weger, Head Computer Division at ECMWF, in her official announcement thanked the RMDCN community for all their efforts and contributions to the RMDCN IPVPN migration project. She further mentioned that, “We, as a community, made a major step forward to improve data communications between ECMWF Member States and Co-operating States, and within the Meteorological community.”
