ECMWF/EUMETSAT NWP-SAF Workshop on the assimilation of IASI in NWP

ECMWF/EUMETSAT NWP-SAF Workshop on Assimilation of IASI in NWP took place from 6 to 8 May 2009.

Description

Marking nearly two years since METOP-IASI data were first disseminated to NWP centres, the workshop considered the progress that has been made in the exploitation of these unique hyper-spectral observations. The methods that have been adopted to assimilate clear and cloud affected radiances were covered, in addition to novel techniques based on the use of principal components and level-2 retrievals. Reflecting the recent expansion of NWP systems to cover environmental monitoring applications, the workshop also dealt with the assimilation of atmospheric constituent information from IASI.
